Le Petit Haut Lafitte 2010

We tried it, we loved it, and now you can get your hands on one of the very best value wines.

 

First, Le Petit Haut Lafitte 2010 has been persistently rated. The scores are: JS92, NM92, WS92.  It is, according to Wine spectator, "Open, pure and ready to drink now".

 

 

Second, Le Petit Haut Lafitte 2010 in itself is a great wine. With 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot with 14 months barrel ageing, it has a beautiful, very dark colour. The nose is discreet in the first instance, and goes on to reveal elegant, expressive overtones of black cherry, black fruit (blackberry and blackcurrant; then dried herbs, cedar, liquorice, clove, and flint and hearth aromas. The wine is concentrated, well-structured, and tightly-knit on the palate.

 

All of us know that second wines in great years are often as good as or better than the grand vin in off years, particularly for drinking in the first 3-5 years after release. Le Petit Haut Lafitte proves this rule, and actually excels for this ripe and powerful 2010 vintage. 

 

Vintage 2009 for the First Wine Smith Haut Lafitte 2009 (RP100) and Second Wine Le Petit Haut Lafitte 2009 so darn expensive these days.The best bet is to drink with the 2010 first wine (RP98+) or second wine(consistent performance rate JS92, NM92, WS92).  That is particular so when the Chateau owner Cathiard family opines that the 2010 is even better than the 2009, according to Robert Parker. Essentially, more of what used to be the first wine is now bottled under the second label. What bottle can you get with this small money you pay for this Le Petit Haut Lafitte 2010 so understated?

 

Second to None at 2nd Best, indeed! This Le Petit Haut Lafitte 2010 really dances.
