2012 Château Marojallia, Margaux(Arsac)

Lavender, butterscotch, truffle, tobacco, earth, licorice and blackberry scents open to a deep, dense, inky nose. Well balanced palate overall (juicy round fruit, excellent structure, ripe tannic edge), the wood brings menthol notes, licorice and spices a little too present for now to some. Bold flavors; long finish. ABV 13.5%.

A cru-level Margaux.

We wish to add, that:

  1. Chateau Marojallia is an evolving estate; the quality of their wine has silenced doubters of their pioneering winemaking techniques (the unorthodox and "garagiste" methods, with Christophe Coupez and Michel Rolland as consultant);

  2. Composed of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot(du Tertre and Monbrison next door has only 65 cabs, with more diversity of grapes), the higher content of pure cabernet and 100% new French oak made Chateau Marojallia 2012 by design a powerful and modern Margaux with tannin that holds on the long finish; and

  3. this is a rare wine with only 500 cases produced annually.

We suggest serving Marojallia 2012 to begin with at 16C for more freshness+ life and warming it up in glass for even more aromatics. We also recommend full decanting for 1 hour.to soften and open its perfume (fragrances of lavender and violets).

Team tasted Marojallia 2004 and the second wine Clos Margalaine 2007 in a blind tasting 6 month ago, pitted against a camp of 3rd, 4th and 5th Growth Margaux. It really silenced the traditional tasters up. Quite a nice beat-up.

Notable scores are: WA93, WE93. This vintage is well-liked by a host of tasters, including Antonio Galloni, Neal Martin, James Suckling, James Molesworth, Jancis Robinson.
