Château Larose Trintaudon 2012

Supple and cedary, Château Larose Trintaudon 2012 gives simple and pleasant nose of black fruits (mure), spices (vanilla, cinnamon) and empyreumatic (wood, smoked). Tight palated, it is balanced and easy to drink. To drinkers of Bordeaux Classed Growths, this wine may be lightish but it carries certain freshness despite oak ageing. It is unpretentious Bordeaux drinking well as it should be. As a Cru Bourgeois, it is almost flawless and rather pleasant, even though it may lacks a little personality. Can evolve well in the next 2 years.

Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) which adequate fragrance, fruit and structure; Merlot (40%). Gives adequate body and ABV(14%). Harvested before 8 October 2012, a bit late.

This is a big Chateau (190 hectares of vineyards, St Laurent), so it gives quite some economies of scale and so the wine is relatively of good market value. Soil is of fine gravels, sandy gravels and clayish limestone soil. Planting density is 6,600 vines per hectare, so the palate is still pretty intense for a Haut Medoc Cb standard . Average age of vines is 28 years old.

In Vivino, 12 votes out of 240 say this wine 2012 is of 5-star quality and some 50% and more say it is 4-star. Comments are generally excellent.

Although 2012 is a wet year(except from mid-July to mid-September), but in Larose trintaudon quality is perfectly controlled to give grapes with good colour, tannins and less acidity than in the 2011 and 2010 vintages. so for general drinking this wine is good enough.

SCORES

WE91. One of the largest estates in the Médoc, this misses being in Pauillac by being - literally -on the wrong side of the rail tracks. Regardless, the location ultimately gives the wine depth and richness. It's ripe, dark, dense and very structured, showing the new wood that will integrate. Drink from 2018. Editors' Choice.
