2016 EP La Dame de Boüard , Montagne St Emilion

Modern style; purple tones throughout. Short palated compared to the first wine Clos de Bouard ; but we think this may be adequate as a lunch wine.

Deep purple; tight pink rim. Full nose of wild violets, black raspberries, plum and licorice. Palate mouthful of violets and is devoid of Montagne ‘particulieres’. It is soft, silky textured, lush styled wine offers sweet, ripe, berries with freshness and the perfect hint dark chocolate in the end note.

Composition is 85% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. ABV 13.5%

We have several points for buying this second wine from La Dame de Bouard 2016:

  1. Advanced and modern drinking now: ripe, with lots of fruit, dense, intense and structured.

  2. Delicious

  3. A fine effort from the very experienced Hubert de Bouard(Angelus, de Franc , Bellevue and others)

  4. Stable price and market support because Lois Maillet, an experienced merchant (LA Vintage we buy from as well) and son-in-law of Hubert de Bouard, is directing;

  5. From good soils, with good and prestigious neigbours including Croix de Labrie , Fleur Cardinale , Fombrauge , Rocheyron , Troplong Mondot and Valandraud .

  6. A wine of high cost performance(only HK$1190 for 12?)

  7. This is the first vintage, which has to be good.

  8. Expensively made: prefermentation cold soak, vinification in traditional cement and barrel vats on a parcel by parcel basis; Malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels; humble and cheap Montage aged in 50% new, French oak barrels for 18 to 24 months before bottling?
