Monasterios de Las Vinao Reserva 2006

 

Bright, deep ruby with a bit of tight, 'terracotta' hue. How come the colour last like years before? Still of medium strength, the nose is filled with rancio, dried cherry, pot roast aromas, herbaceous with hints of briny dill pickles and wood fire smoke. Meaty and full blown by now. On the palate, flavours of ripe black cherries, cocoa with refined tannins and refreshing acidity with long smoky pipe tobacco. Savoury smooth and round finish. At this age, it is starting to throw a little sediment so you might opt to decant and chill lightly before drinking it. A notable score is RP90.

Undisputed the quality/ price/rating for little wine from Ebro valley.  Some 70% Garnacha, Tempranillo 20% and 10% Carignan combines recreates a new wine style, which ages for 12 months in French oak barrels (Tempranillo and Carignan) and American (Grenache) and 24 months of ageing in bottle. All harvested at the end of September from 35 to 45 years-old bush-vines.

 

Versatile food matching: green peppercorn grilled steak, meaty and fatty fishes with fresh soya source, broccoli satay, international cold cuts and hard cheese, lentil burger, and even Cheese and ‘General’ Hamburger from McDonald’s.
