Chateau Haut-Brisson 2015, St Emilion Grand Cru
Deep ruby with a tight rim. The nose reflects the palate, giving perfumes, violets, the sweet fruit of this fuller-bodied wine has started to unfurl. With moderate tannins wrapped in oak and spice, fresh and ripe black cherry, black currant, and liquorice flavours supply the long fruit finish. A solid Right Bank, stuffed. Can drink now and also improve over the next ten years.
2105 is Haut-Brisson's first vintage without a reserve wine! So this is the top and only Cuvee making it one of the strongest releases yet. It is organic, The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc; hence very easy with the palate. Winemaker is Jérôme Aguirre, who previously worked at Christine Péré-Vergé's vineyards in Pomerol, hence this will be a 'lush' and'riper' style; Michel Rolland is the consultant, hence always a touch of modernity.
Robert Parker once called Haut-Brisson "one of St-Emilion's most attractive over-performers," and "generally available for a realistic price." This 2015 is no different and indeed exceptional. It is offered superb value for this excellent 2015 vintage.

95 points James Suckling This is the best Haut-Brisson ever showing ripe dark plums and chocolate on the nose, which is so seductive. The palate is all about the silky tannins and beautiful fruit. Full body, gorgeous fruit and a complex aftertaste. So precise and impressive. Texturally complete. Drink or hold. (2/2018)
