2010 Chateau Pouget, Margaux 4th Growth
Deep ruby with a tight rim. Ripe forest and summer fruit on the nose. Perfumy; floral. On the palate, toasty tones clothing blackcurrant and bilberry fruit. Caramelised. Finishes liquorice, caramelised, toasty, smoky, chocolate, tar, peppery spice and chestnut. There is a 'cashmere feel' to the structure as well as the alluring notes of lilac, violet, steeped cherry and red currant, backed by a lightly tangy note on the finish, says Wine Spectator.
Vivino tasters rank 2010 Pouget higher than 2000, 2005 and 2008. The Britsih taster, Harper writer and Chateau owner Gavin Quinney rated it amongst some of the best in his 2010 En Primeur Bordeaux tasting.
The vines within Chateau Pouget are over 40 years old in the middle of the decade, occupy gravel ridges south of Cantenac on siliceous and well-drained soil. The varietal diversity of 62% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 5% Cabernet-Franc points to structural design for more complexity. Of course, Chateau Pouget from the commune Cantenac will benefit significantly from ageing. And this is from is an excellent vintage for Margaux!
Sometimes Pouget is not easy to come by. Investors have difficulties to find Pouget to complete the total 61 Crus of Leftbank during good vintages. This Margaux 4th Growth is not as famous as the other comparable wine for the local market; hence, It is still at reasonable prices.
