Champagne Barons de Rothschild NV

Straw; pale gold. Very fine and tight bubbles; abundant, persistent. Foamy.

A robust and intense opening that leads into a direct style.   On the nose, Champagne Barons de Rothschild NV is floral, fruity(dried and baked stone fruit, apples, pears, tangerine)and nuttiness(almonds), honey, coffee and toasty notes. Big and rich nose and taste(minerality as well) by NV standard but lack the finesse, elegance and complexity of some of the NVs. Direct and solid finish.

Some writers tell that the fruit produced in the village of Vertus(!). At least 80% of all the grape obtains from the best of the Grand and Premier Cru, especially in the Côte de Blanc region. There are 40 per cent reserve wines in the mix and spends three years on the lees and with 7 g/l dosage, hence the style. The Barons de Rothschild from Château Lafite, Château Mouton and Château Clarke have joined forces to form the latest Champagne house before 2005. A blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. ABV is 12.5%.

Critical Acclaims are:

W&S93Wine & Spirits This tightly knit wine has the buzzing energy of a beehive, the frisson of bubbles calming to a spicy scent of bee balm along with darker tones of whole-grain toast. It’s firmly structured, with lasting clarity to its flavours. Pour it with a selection of crudo, dressed in citrus and peppery olive oil.

WS91Wine Spectator Hints of toasted brioche and lemon curd are layered with glazed apricot and spice notes in this firm, well-knit Champagne. Lively, offering a clean-cut, minerally finish.

JS91James Suckling A rich and classically complex style with boldly-stated, toasty, reserve wine drive. Grilled nuts, potpourri and dried red berries on the nose. The palate has lemon citrus punch amid a powerful pinot-esque frame. Drink now.
