Elderton Estate Shiraz 2005

2005 harvest occurred slightly later than usual, resulting in excellent quality fruit. IT is always with good natural acid and superb flavour. Fourteen years have taken the wine to a beautiful meaty edge not too dissimilar to a great Syrah from the Northern Rhone. It not as rich as its elder brother Command Shiraz but is alomst as fruity, not heavy, offering classic blackberry, violet, spice, vanilla, aniseed and mocha. On the palate, it is full-bodied, fresh with lush dark fruit, aniseed, brown spices and vanilla coffee oak. Very balanced with velveteen tannins, textured mouthfeel and a long spicy finish. Incredibly wine and value to boot.

It's a complete wine of breed and enormous drinkability at a bargain price, and we always bet on 2005 when it comes to bodied reds from SA.

Scores are consistently high. It is a Gold Medal in IWC.

RP 94 Points

"The 2005 Shiraz Nurioopta is purple/black with a brooding nose of smoke, tar, liquorice, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. Full-bodied and voluptuous, it is dense and concentrated, with gobs of spicy black fruit flavours. It will evolve for 3-5 years and drink well through 2020.
