Chateau Haut Langdale 2008 Montage St. Emilion. Dark ruby, tight rim. Dense and inky. Some fragrance. Full nose spectrum from fruit (dry fruit and dark fruit like Pipa/plums), floral, spice (licoriced, old leather, coffee bean), wet forest floor, mint chocolate over 30 minutes tasting. Quite structured, dry and mineral finish. A bit extracted. This is the best value claret of the winter season and should be drinking well in cooler months. Merlot-dominant, medium-weight and smooth by now, this is one of the more genial wines around and it is particularly classy with this complex, gamey terrine. DD84.
