Imagine Michel Chapoutier in Beaujolais! That's right! One of the world's finest winemakers has acquired a top winery from Beaujolais. A moreish Beaujolais made by young winemaker Nicolas Dietrich from fruit grown on hillside vineyards near Le Perréon and Vaux. The colour shows a deep and brilliant ruby colour with dark purple notes. The nose is red fruit driven: strawberry and red currant, mingled with floral notes of rose and peony. This wine used old vines, so it is with concentration and light tannins give this wine its intensely fruity character. Relatively easy to understand and appreciate as an end-of-summer wine, it is Juicy, crisp, along with good acidity and a bright aftertaste. Surprisingly is ripe on the palate and gives good Burgundian structure in the mouth, with smooth tannins.
Aged for six months in cement tanks, without fining and with light filtration before bottling, so the wine tastes fresh, quite smooth and still feel stuffed. Trénel’s Beaujolais Villages produced in the area situates next to the villages of Perréon and Clochemerle sourced from parcels with sandy-loam and granitic soils, which are south and east oriented.
AG comments well on 2015 vintage which has a similar bearing on this current 2016 tasting(AG90), saying this wine gives:
"Deep ruby. Aromas of ripe dark berries, cherry pit and liquorice are lifted by a suggestion of smoky minerals. Broad and weighty on the palate, offering bitter cherry and cassis flavours that unfold slowly, picking up a peppery, energising nuance on the back half. In a substantial, concentrated style, delivering solid closing thrust, firming tannins and a lingering suggestion of dark chocolate." - 90 Points Antonio Galloni (2015)
