Deep ruby, with a light garnet rim. With some bottle ageing, this wine shows a purity of Cabernet fruit, an abundance of layered flavours and with careful winemaking practices(soft tannins, not too spicy) has made a fuller yet more delicate style, well structured, balanced and the palate has excellent length. There are no hard edges for this Cabernet by now, after 15 years of bottle ageing. Reasonably complex and well balanced; cheap and good enough; from very good vintage.
Smart, not fat; Craneford John Zilm Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 is still drinking fine now and epitomises the Cabernet fruit of the vintage while continuing to express the unique soil characters of the John Zilm vineyard on the one hand and shows classic round cabernet flavours from Barossa on the other.
Awarded WA91, Robert Parker, Jr. writes,' The Wine Advocate #161 10/31/05 "The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot, aged primarily in small new French oak) offers superb flavour purity as well as delineation. Its dense purple colour is followed by sweet scents of crème de cassis and licorice. A big, rich Cabernet with no hard edges, it should age for a decade, but is probably best consumed during its first 5-7 years of life. "
