Quintessentially Pauillac....

This bottle of Kay Brothers Amery Cabernet 2004 is varietally pure. Still, with adequate cassis fruit, it noses herbaceous with a touch of 'sous-Bois' and truffle. The melted tannins forming a chiselled palate combine the eucalyptus blackberry/mulberry fruits in subtle harmony with the sweet cigar-box characters and ripe. Alcohol is 14%; medium-bodied; simple and quite clean finish though. It is firmer than the 2003 with which we compare.

Specialists score this wine high. Scoring it 94 points, UK merchant and writer Stuart McCloskey say it has 'Pauillac-like nose of black currants, cedarwood, tobacco leaf, and spice box.. a sensational steal and profoundly brilliant at this prices.’ Indeed, price has been remarkably consistent.

James Halliday also scores it relatively high for the class, like 92 points. Parker humbly scores it 89 Points, hence we still have a great price.
