Tasting Brunello di Montalcinos, Vinexpo Hong Kong, afternoon of 28 May 2014
The wines from the following wineries are more agreeable to me:
The best in this list is Poggio Antico. Extremely aromatic, all wines shows lots of fresh and pure red fruits without losing great hints on the BdMness through great wood spice. Excellent.
Barbi and Bartoli Giusti-Tenuta Communali. While both seemed to lack the rusticity of BdMs, they strike a good balance of modernity and traditionalism. Red fruited mostly; the tannins are just fine and edging. Barbi is a bit finer, with Bartoli Giusti more towards to darker side with more phelonic ripeness.
La Gerla is tasty , and with good excellent acidities and fine, edging tannins too. Definitely a good example of North of the Town creation. La Magia has certainly stiffness and intensity. IT is very structured with strong and polished tannins, and is never the rustic and traditional style. The more you taste, the more you will like it, particularly with Continental type of food.
Pinino’s top of the range, a Riserva 2006, deserves even more support. IT is succulent and the acidity is excellent. Caparzo’s Rosso is also admirable: easy, simple and elegant. Just smart.
