Chateau L'Hospital White 2009, Red 2007 and Red 2006 Graves
The 2009 White is straw gold with green hues. Ripe green apples with hints of stone fruits. Flinty. Congruent palate with interesting mineral texture, lifted green fruit and spicy finish. Passed its peak, and for the value still fine. As right put by Clive Coates, better to attempt the wines from Chateau L'Hospital young.
The 2007 red gives firm deep pruby colour with medium rim. Smoky, fragrant(violets) and generous plum and currant nose(spectrum) with some tangerine tones make the wine approachable with some modernity. Intense in mid-palate, stil bright, fruity,flows, easy to palate with mineral texture, albeit a little short on palate. Fine tannins, very fluent.
Darker and denser, the riper 2006 red gives more dimension on cooked fruit(plums and prunes), new leather, sandalwood and chinese herbal tea. The palate is consistent with nose, which give an even stronger minera and spicy touch, as well as a bodied and warm finish. Long.
Château de L’Hospital is located in the small town of Portets, about 15 miles south of Bordeaux in the Graves appellation. At the beginning of the XVIII century it was the country home of Jacques de L’Hospital, adviser of the King, where he made wine. His daughter, Anne Catherine de L’Hospital, married Jean-Jacques Fournier de la Chapelle, a well-known and powerful nobleman. It was classified as a historic monument in 1973; the château is a superb expression of the neo-classic style and shows the harmony and refinement of the XVIII century.
