Guado al Tasso 2012, Super Tuscan

Should Guado al Tasso have been listed as the Top 5 Bordeaux Blend in Nicholas Belfrage’s books along side with Tua Rita and other, the price of Guado al Tasso would not have been that modest. And that is only we could make in this little tasting, as so much ink had already be spilt on this wine and we don’t feel we have too much room to play with that.

Where the terroir is varied across the gentle slopes with medium-textured, clay soil and more stony areas, grapes on the Guado al Tasso soils(mixed) are all kissed by the sun and caressed by the cooling wind that blows up at the hottest part of the day keeping the grapes nice and cool(40 to 60 meters). All grapes are handpicked and sorted onto 15kg/pack, skin- contacted for 15 to 20 days and aged for a year or so in 60-gallon French barrels.

The Guado al Tasso tasted in 1994 as a recent project, regardless of the long tradition of the Antinori family, contributes to the its super-value for a super Tuscan of this quality. James Sukling’s awarded a vey high score of 96 and comments as follow, ‘Poised and focused, this is a young red that shows great complexity and style with lots of blackberry, mint, spice and rosemary aromas that follow through to a full body, chewy tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Needs two to four years to soften. Rivals Antinori's Solaia in 2012.’ Superb.
