Chateau Certan de May 2007, Pomerol

Tasted alongside with other Pomerols of the same 2007 vintage including VCC, Le Conseillante, Petit Village, Trotanoy, Chateau Certan de May 2007 was completely different in style. First, attractive plum, earth, and spice characteristics formed the complex aromatics. Then, it has much darker colour, lots of jammy black fruit and pronounced new oak recalled the density and lushness of La Fleur, or even Petrus. The mainly black fruits on the nose are very firm lightened a bit by some cherry.

Sweet black fruits, bilberry and sloe are there on the palate fleshing it out and giving a richer weight towards the back. Impressively concentrated for the vintage 2007, which gives less elegance than we would have expected though. One wringle: lifted acidity and drying finish. It nonetheless gives every bit of mileage from each cent spent. For HK$468 a bottle, where the whole world is buying and selling in the range of HK$600 to HK$940? Sort of ridiculously good and definitely the cheapest for now in the Hong Kong market, as far as I know. Last but not least, it is a NM92-94 and JS92.
