Oreno Tenuta Sette Ponti 2012
No further ink needs to spill on this famous Bordeaux Blend a la style Super Tuscan. With slightly more Merlot and comes from a riper vintage, Oreno Tenuta Sette Ponti 2012 has been well balanced by the acidities. Using mix of new French oak and American oak, the Oreno Tenuta Sette Ponti 2012 is decidedly New World in style, but has lots of Old World ‘grip’. This wine, however, expresses soil more than varietal characters ands has been brought up in open vats, longish fermentation, softer punch-down, and micro viticultural practices.
Some wine commentators are of the view that the pinch of Petit Verdot makes the difference and stand this wine out from the crowd. Some concur that his wine reflects the ripe and rounded palates of Petrus and Latour. And as a matter of fact, winemaker Carlo Ferrini(also Wine Enthsuiast’s 2007 Wine Maker of the Year), who did express his liking for the 2 famous Bordeaux Crus, looks into the balance of ripeness and complexity, as well as elegance. The orientation of his wines, in this case Oreno Tenuta Sette Ponti 2012, has been reflected most expert tastings. Team though this wine is developing and believe that it requires massive decanting for hours.
Awarded JS97, this wine has not been described in full by James Suckling's orignal tasting.Re-tasting this wine in November 2015, he did add the fruit (citrus) and floral (violet) dimensions to the tasting, pointing apparently to the evolution of the wine.

“The 2012 Oreno is dark, powerful and voluptuous. A host of black cherry jam, mocha, spice and violet open up in the glass, all propelled by a real sense of power. The tannins are broad and intense, so readers will have to give the 2012 at least a few years to settle down. Super-ripe, explosive and concentrated, the Oreno is one of the more overt wines of the vintage.” (October 2015)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 93 point review: “Tenuta Sette Ponti's 2012 Oreno is a very different wine compared to its 2011 predecessor. This was also a warm vintage, yet the fruit is more masculine and sober in this vintage. The wine shows harder lines and a more determined style with shapely tannins and long flavors of dark spice, blackberry and bitter chocolate. Oreno should age beautifully over the next ten years.
