2002 Summerfield Reserve Shiraz, Pyrenees

Ripe dark fruits(plums and cherries), dark chocolate(mocha as well) and hint of leather. Full bodied with modest alcohol, it gives soft and with a long lasting spicy finish. Classic Pyrenees(North West from Victoria), it is a fine and elegant shiraz with nice acidities holding it together .IT is pleasant and surprisingly youthful, though we expected more complexity. In the finish, the texture of the tannins is very good, as is the oak balance. Well balanced and drinking well right now. From an exceptional vintage. Drink now.

Summerfield is a family business consisting of Ian Summerfield and his two sons, fourth generation Moonambel locals Craig and Mark. Ian tends to work with the vines daily, and his expertise in farming and viticulture has been passed on to his sons. Additionally, Craig has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Oenology through Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia, and has worked in the industry in the Hunter Valley and in Victoria at Yellowglen.

IT is a JH95. James Hallliday says, "Typically dense colour; ultra-complex and dense flavours, texture and structure; luscious plum and dark berry; good finish."James Halliday October 2004.

Jeremy Olivier says, ‘An interesting wine, outside the usual Summerfield style, although none the worse for that; the dark fruits are interwoven with savoury black olive and bitter chocolate, the tannin and oak management impeccable.’
