Rauzan-Segla 1992, Second Growth Margaux

Deep ruby, tight rim. Unusually brooding in colour for a 25-year-old Margaux from the Second Growth. On the nose, quite dimensional black fruits, tobacco, earth, mushrooms, herbs, spices and smoke. On the palate textured with blackberries, mocha, cedarwood, round soft, savoury, a touch of dry tannins on the finish. Medium bodied, adequate length to give good impressions.

Rauzan-Segla tends to either too robust, frail or thin in its youth, like some lousy coffee. By now, it has become quite a quaffable second growth Margaux with a rare elegance and bouquet. It is the wine for dining by the candlelight and whispers.

Parker et al. may not like this kind of elegance as the Tasting Team does. Also, it is from an apparently notorious 1992. It is awarded mere 88 points and is a good-valued, true Margaux from the Commune of Margaux.
