Phelan Segur 1988, CBE St Estephe
The 1988 Phelan-Segur offers a classic rendition of St.-Estephe. By now it is still with dry, dark fruit, giving also earthy, peppers aroma. With some complexities(4 grapes; Cabernet based), it is round on the palate and has become a claret by now.
Vintage 1988 gives stable quality with the Gardinier family spending on renovating the chateau and buying some equipment. It is classed as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 2003 and remains as a beautiful, unclassified wine ever since.
Score is not bad. WS91.
