Chateau Camensac 2002, Haut Medoc 5th Growth
Deep ruby, tight rim. Classic vocabularies: cherry and black currant fruit with earth, spice and new wood. The metaphor: ripe black fruits in an old leather basket, next to a glass of espresso. This wine is harmonious by now, with tannins kept well; full-bodied; matured nicely.
Quite some USPs. Cheap with excellent value; dense planting(10,000 vines per hectare); using three royal grapes(Cabernet based); fresh and easy vintage; next to Chateau Beychevelle with a touch of St Julien; Rolland consulted; mysterious and good. This vintage gives some volume(13% abv) and straightforwardness on the palate, compared to the more silky and mineral-driven Cantermerle 2002. Both chateaux are of 5th Growth and are close to St Julien. Scores are not good enough. Hence, it is cheap for a decent claret.
