Re-tasting Kevin Sherwood Special Reserve 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa

Deep ruby with a medium rim. First clean nose vivid red fruit turns to dark cherries, blackberries and black currants, mulberries, followed by minty, liquorice and leathery tones. The quite chiselled palate is reflecting the same; it shows reasonably fine tannins in the medium finish with some ripeness, spices and lifted acidity. This organic Special Reserve uses slightly better fruit from a single selected vineyard(St Helena).

The fruit is handpicked in a crisp morning to avoid the heat. Although the ABV is 13.8%, there is some elegance to the finish and gives classic cabernet touch with uncomplicated drinking. Vintage 2009 is reasonably good for Napa Valley.
