Triga 2015, Spain

Inky, this wine has a tight rim and oozes dark, brooding fruit. Chocolate and mocha from heavily oaked Monastrell and Cabernet blend before those aromas change to char and toast. Entirely changing, the fruit is bright and modern. The palate reflects the nose in the fruit-secondary-tertiary profile-chewy, heavyweight, flavours of liquorice, charred oak and char-along with dark fruit that’s 'more canvas than paint'.

Triga 2015 is a favourite with our drinking friends. One hour of full decanting before consumption for even better complexity and depth.

By Triga 2015, Spain, Triga 2015 was carefully harvested and meticulously crafted. Each plot separately vinified, hence vary the taste is detailed. Malolactic fermentation took place in French oak barrels, where this wine aged for 20 months and almost a year in ageing tank, is blended, resulting in a proportion of 85% Mourvèdre and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, hence the style.

Made from grapes coming from five plots more than 85 years of age, four of those plots are planted with Monastrell vines, while the fifth planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. Some of the grapes located at an average altitude of 750 metres above sea level are ungrafted, hence the style. Soils are quite peculiar up there, as they are filled with fossils and covered by a thick layer of limestone. Scores are consistently high, for example, WS95.
