Maison Trénel Climat Les Quarts 2017, Pouilly-Vinzelles
The climat ‘Les Quarts’ located in the Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation is in the South of Saône-et-Loire, near Mâcon. The vineyard is composed of limestone, chalk and clay, with the vines averaging 55 years old. The Rock of Solutré still influences the area. This wine ferments with indigenous yeasts. The opulence and structure helped by oak ageing for twelve months — the grape: 100% Chardonnay.
Established by Claude-Henri Trénel in 1928, Maison Trénel has been recognized internationally as one of the region's top independent négociants for decades. Trénel is considered a small Maison, producing roughly half a million bottles per year. To produce wines of the highest quality, Claude-Henri and his son André have forged exclusive relationships with many of the top grape growers of the region. Trénel bottles wines under many appellations, mostly from the very south of Burgundy, and is a highly respected reference point of superior quality Beaujolais. Maison Trénel is one of the classic negociant houses of Beaujolais and produces seven of the ten Beaujolais Crus. The wines are sourced from top vineyard sites, mostly planted with old vines. In 2015, Maison Trénel was purchased by Michel Chapoutier, who is one of the most successful winemakers of the last decade. Under Chapoutier’s guidance, the wines are reaching ever greater heights, with greater emphasis on Terroir and highlighting the differences between the various vineyard sites.
