Parker Coonawarra Block 95, Cabernet Blends 2015

This wine is from the famous John Parker. Of course, this wine shows lots of Coonawarn minerality and Cabernet at its best in Australia. 2015 is excellent vintage. Block 95 sub-section being the estate's 'Abbey' vineyard is located west of the cellars and planted with Reynell clone Cabernet Sauvignon. When you are drinking Block 95, you probably feel like travelling back in time because these vines are original cuttings from Bordeaux, brought to Coonawarra before they lost to France due to Phylloxera in the late 1800s. The 95 Block also contains four rows of Petit Verdot, and always some 20% is co-fermented with the Cabernet; hence, there is always some almost indescribable 'blendness' to the palate.

We find it floral with lifted potpourri balanced with gamey, meaty notes. Lurking behind are fleshy black fruits, mushrooms and hints of sweet oak, mint, chocolate and tealeaf. The palate is still smooth despite the dense and weighty flavours with earthy, almost gritty tannins that sit well with the grain. Persistency, length and harmony in equal measure. Tannins may be too dry. ABV14.5; not as hot probably because of the linear acidity and subtle finish.
