Domaine Wachau Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Terrassen 2020
Bright, light straw yellow with green blots, it is packed with the tone of tropical(mango. apricot, peach) fruit, and, as right put by the Domaine Wancha tasters, it has a delicate citrusy nose with a touch of smoky and robust. There are juicy, exotic fruit flavours(citrus, ripe lemon), plenty of spices, and dry herbs that dominate the long and full taste. With a mineral(peppery, salty, zesty)finish, it feels lightish but is full-bodied—lots of precision, power, and longevity.
The score is high at 93 Falstaff.
Terrassen has to be a cuvée from multiple terraced sites. Wines. "Smaragd" stands for complex, full-bodied wines of the Wachau with ageing potential. It is a term used by Vinea Wachau members showing a dry wine with a minimum alcohol of 12.5%. They are harvested late and are true representatives of their terroir. Domaine Wachau writes that Terrassen planted the best grapes from different small terraced vineyards between Loiben and Spitz and were hand-picked for this premium blend. The goal was to create a wine that reflects the typical Wachau wine style, defined by the unique climate and primary rock soils.
Yields are kept low(30 to 35 hectoliters per hectare with botrytis carefully removed by hand). Fermentation is stainless steel and no malo, hence the style.
