Flavio Fanti La Palazzetta Brunello di Montalcino 2011

Ripe black-skinned fruit, underbrush, leather, sunbaked earth and a whiff of crushed herb come together on this solid red. The round palate gives juicy wild cherry, raspberry, cinnamon, a hint of vanilla and anise alongside robust, velvety tannins that impart muscle and polish. Don’t be-little the classic sangiovese colour tones (garnet, tight rim though). With classic BdM tastprofile, this is a very elegant wine with quite some power. With full 3 hours decanting, this wine taste deep and intense. ABV will be fine(don’t feel like 14.5 %). Can age for another 5 to 7 years.

At La Palazetta, the staunchly traditional Flavio Fanti never had anything to do with the modernist gimmicks. Instead of relying on manipulations in the cellar he lovingly tends his vines, always with organic techniques, to get great fruit. His Brunello ages in the old fashioned, now back in fashion, large oak bott(Slovenian used oak). So big in fact it’s a marvel that they fit into the tiny cellar. Palazetta is situated on the south-eastern edge of the he Montalcino DOC in the tiny village of Castelnuovo dell’ Abate(northwest of Mount Amiata). This is a warmer zone and Fanti makes massive wines with structure, power and purity built for the long haul. This country gentleman deeply committed to the heritage of Brunello and Tuscany has been joined by his daughter Tea who recently earned a doctorate in oenology.

This is a JS 93, with WE 91 and some good WA comments.
