Chateau Lagrange 2006

No further ink perhaps needs to be spilt on Chateau Lagrange 2006 . The blackberry and Darjeeling-like tea aroma and flavors of the 2006 Lagrange leaves Team with a significant impression though. It has a core of ripe, black fruit flavor with integrated tannins; this is a well-made, impressive wine and showed Chateau Lagrange’s capabilities in an otherwise average vintage(almost like rigid and limited fruit). This neat and clean style, endowed from Emile Peynaud, Marcel Ducassse and bruno Eynard, stands Lagrange out from with other wines from the same St. Julien Appellation, including Talbot, Beychevelle, St Pierre, Gloria and etc. Scores are: NM93, WA91, WS90, JS91, WE92, ST90.

Some of the leading tastings are as follows:

92 points Wine Enthusiast

Very elegant, very classy, this wine shows, discreetly, its sweet juicy fruit, great ripe black currant flavor and fine tannins. Nothing is overstated; this is for lovers of stylish wines. (3/2009)

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

A very strong effort from Lagrange in 2006, this estate’s tendency for including a nearly overwhelming oak component in its wines has been tamed in this cuvee, resulting in a better-balanced, potentially complex offering. A deep opaque purple color is followed by aromas of espresso roast, subtle pain grille, black currants, and cigar box. Full-bodied and surprisingly powerful for a 2006, with outstanding purity, texture, and depth, patience will be required for this beauty. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2027. (2/2009)

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Bright red-ruby. High-pitched aromas of blueberry, cassis, bitter chocolate, pepper, herbs and violet. Enters the mouth suave and smooth, then builds and expands toward the back, offering classic black fruit, licorice, mineral and violet flavors and saturating the palate with fine, dusty tannins. The floral finish offers lovely lift and sneaky persistence. (6/2009)

90 points Wine Spectator

Subtle aromas of raspberry and coffee bean follow through to a full body, with refined tannins and a fruity finish. Silky and balanced, even delicate. Not at all overdone. (3/2009)
