Masut Da Rive Ribolla Gialla 2012, Isonzo

Pale gold with green hues, this wine tastes natural and is characterised by tones of white flowers, peach, citrus and apple notes and a subtle floral aromatic profile and firm acidity. Quite soft yet textured on the palate, the wine is has passed its best drinking window—an exotic taste. Medium finish. Pleasant.

Masùt da Rive is in the small town of Mariano del Friuli within the Isonzo del Friuli DOC( northeastern Friuli Venezia Giulia region of Italy). There are lots of miccroclimate inlfuences: red soil, wide diurnal range, warm Adriatic winds since the morning, cool night-time mountain breezes, providing ideal conditions for producing fresh, fruity white wines and full-bodied red wines with structure and texture. That partly explains despite the age of the wine, the acidity is still bright, and the fruit still ripe. Lightish ABV at 12.5%.

According to Decanter, the Gallo family has been growing grapes in the region for four generations. The Masùt da Rive winery was founded in 1979 by Silvano Gallo, who named it after a 16th-century ancestor called Tommaso, known to friends as Masùt, or ‘little Tommaso’. Masùt da Rive is today run by Silvano’s sons Fabrizio and Marco, with the same passion as their father. This is a WS89. On the right is a lovely photoshot of Masut Da Rive, by Decanter.
