Tasting 4 Aussie Auction Items

We feel like having travelled through time and space,. A la style singer Leon Lai's ' thought process', we indeed have travelled from 'outside rim of the core' to 'inside rim of the core'. We have return to the Barossa and McLaren soil eventuslly from the expressive Shiraz character from the beginning.

Regardless the contrary and contraditory research findings from the 'Randall’s Rocks', Dr Richard Smart, Dawid Saayman, Professor Jean-Claude Davidian, Professor Brian Forde of Lancaster University ,Professor Malcolm Bennett and Dr Martin Broadley of Nottingham University, Tasting Team truly believes that the taste of of terroir is critical to wine quality. We have to say these 4 wines are unique in that they faithfully express their geographical origins.

The first 2 are aged Barossa Shiraz, Gibson Estate Shiraz 2003 and JJ Hahn 1928 Shiraz 2002develops leather and spcies. The value likes in the appreciation of the graceful evolution from their bold fruit to natural, earthy feel. The other Older McLaren Vale Shirazes Fox Creek Short Row Shiraz 2004 and Aramis Syrah Governor 2002 wines now finish with perfect elegance.

  • Gibson Estate Barossa Shiraz 2003, HH93. Small family winery, ancient soils, hand-crafter wines all made by a true Barossa character, grown from a single estate vineyard in famous Stockwell fruit and displays aromas and flavours that are fresh and lively with juicy fruit tones.

  • JJ Hahn 1928 Barossa Shiraz 2002, WA92. Big and bold with lots of up-front dark berry fruit flavor, this wonder from Barossa Valley made by the famed maker Rolf Binder Under also exudes impressions of leather and sweet wood.

  • Fox Creek Short Row McLaren Vale Shiraz 2004, JH94.This is a terrific McLaren Vale Shiraz with lovely suppleness of texture. Plum aniseed and rich fruit-cake flavours are woven around spicy oak and light lingering tannin. The Fox Creek story began when a small group of doctors and their wives decided to pursue a lifelong passion – creating wine from bare earth and sunshine. The earth was found at McLaren Vale, one of South Australia’s premier wine regions, globally renowned for its Shiraz.

  • Aramis Syrah Governor McLaren Vale Shiraz 2002, JH94, WS93. What a name Aramis! This is rich with potent juicy blackberry fruit and a touch of bitter chocolate; fine, lingering tannins; structured and lengthy. Elegant. One Taste Team member worked on this wine 10 years ago. That was one of his most expensive wines from the Australian portfolio. It’s one of the best buy here. The owner of the winery is a successful project contractor.
