Grapefruit, mineral, dense and compact. Right tertiary tones. On palate, plenty of power and substance. Off-dry, with residual sweetness still noticeable. 2007 was an excellent vintage year on the Saar. Dr Siemens was able to harvest all the grapes in at least Spätlese quality, which our stepped this basic QbA Kabinett.
The vineyard Würtzberg has a slope of up to 60 degrees. The difference in elevation between the lowest and highest vines on the property is 600 feet. The southern and south-westerly facing positions together with the slate in which the vines grow, create the special conditions which contribute to this wine. Compared to wines from its other vineyards, the Herreberg vineyard, this wine from the Würtzberg vineyard with greater humus and red slate, is full bodied and spicier.
In the 2013 Riesling Challenge in Germany, Dr Seimen’s basic Riesling lost only to Earl of Kanitz Lorcher Pfaffenwies Riesling Spätlese, beating up a host of greats and great names(Eugen Müller and Selbach-Oster included!!!!)
