Le G de Guiraud 2015 and 2016 Revisited.

The 2015 G de Guiraud is soft and pretty; the 2016 G de Guiraud structured and always has some intensity, ripeness and minerality to the palate and nose. One month ago when we tasted 2016 again when we ' yum-cha', there are some new complexities of bottle age, and colour turns slightly pale gold.

Floral content for the 2015 centres around white flowers, like jasmine; 2016 is more on the orange flowers, like chamomile. Fruit profile for 2015 is the ripe, orchard fruit with quite some diversity. White peach is the core fruit of 2016, with lots of citrus and grape fruit elements built around it. Both the 2015 and 2016 are textured(sur lees), with some fatness to them. Wood tones give both 2015 and 2016 sense of 'class'(nose like expensive, you may surmise)and 'mystery'(which classification, you may wonder) regardless of the low price and absolute mystery. Both are beautiful drink now.

A high-quality dry white from the famous Premier Grand Cru Classes Sauternes Chateau Guiraud, it is well represented by prestigious merchants around the world. Consider the making, both are excellent buys from good, slow- ripe vintages. Production is small, like 2500 cases from mere 15 ha. Vineyards. Soil type is composed of sandy gravel for 80% of the surface and clay gravel for the remainder, and with translucent sands, pure gravel crossed through with red clay and limestone marls, fossilised oyster bed and red and white clay as sub-soils.

Planting is dense, like over 6600 of vines per ha and vine age is over 15 years old. Harvest is hand-picked, by successive selections through the vines (1 to 2 selections), on ripe and healthy grapes. Fermentation in new oak barrels that have been barreling used for the grand cru and it lasts two weeks. Ageing takes place from 6 to 9 months in barrels, regularly stirring the lees, so that comes the texture.

Both vintages have pretty decent and well-reasoned scores.

2015 Le G de Guiraud

91 Wine Advocate

The 2015 G de Château Guiraud offers nectarine, pithy fruit on the nose that needs just a little more delineation. The palate is crisp and fresh with plenty of citrus fruit, dried pineapple and green apples on the energetic finish. Give this a year once in bottle and you'll have a great G de Guiraud.

2016 Le G de Guiraud 93 Wine Spectator This is still a bit tight, with a racy lemon pith frame around the core of white peach, tangerine, chamomile and straw flavors. Shows weight and zip, and should fill out nicely.
