Chateau Peyrabon 2008 , Haut Medoc CB


Chateau Peyrabon 2008 is as good as 2009(JS92). It is of good value.

Nose is lightish with plums, blackberries and dark cherries. Palate it is clean and 'cabernet'. It leaves behind good, tobacco tones. Structured with fruit, length and some depth, it is textured with fine tannins. A Pauillac personality.

Terroir is more gravel. Surface area provides reasonable economy of scale of 49 ha. Planting density is high at 8 500 plants /ha. Yield is standard at 50 hl/ha. Grape variety composed of 59% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 4% cabernet franc, 2% petit verdot Age of the vines 21 years.

Fermentation temperature is relatively moderated from 25°C to ­26°C, so the wine is elegant. It is concrete and inox tank thermoregulated. So, cool fruit is sustained. Ageing is traditional maturation in barrel for 14 months (25% of new barrels each year) Harvests is Hand picking and Mechanical. Production 180­220 000 bottles, which is reasonable.
