Domaine Fichet Macon-Ige Chateau London 2016

Public comments point to flavours of grapefruit and citrus fruit(southwestern exposure) which twist towards white roses and acacia. Medium-bodied and feels dense with 13% ABV, on the palate, this is a fresh and smooth wine with honeysuckle, citrus fruits and apples, as well as a real intensity of flavour(minerality) and medium aftertaste. A delicate yet creamy wine(on the lees) that is smooth (partial oak fermentation). Drink not too chilled. Some oxygenation will be perfect.

Called ‘Chateau London’, it is considered one of the top sites in the Maconnais. The Commune is Ige. Old vines, free draining shale soils and the perfect amount of sunshine work in collaboration to ensure the grapes ripen evenly. The grapes are sorted carefully and aged on their lees, then fermented in old French Barrels.

Vines were planted from1920-1995, blending nine different plots of various ages. Fermentation is with 100% destemmed grapes, cold pre-fermentative maceration for 15-22hrs. Fermentation begins in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel vats.  Malolactic is partial MLF. Maturation is10 to 12 months in stainless steel and 10% old oak barrels.  WE89 on this wine is underrated.

A beautiful and solid summer drink. Best with salad, seafood and cold cuts.
