Contador Macizo 2009 by now has a medium gold colour with some intensity. Nose marked minerality, wrapped in striking wood ageing notes, hints of wild herbs(rosemary for example) and dry flowers. Fruit nose is slightly suppressed to start, driving a full-bodied white with a bit of bottle age to round it out. Barrel fermented, the palate is powerful, warmly Meditteranean. In the finish, the soft acidity conditioned by the nuttiness and creaminess from oak fermentation and 8-month, 50% new oak ageing on lees, rounded with dry citrus and green apple fruit, herbal accents, a rippled texture, dry white fruit, smokiness and elements of pastry type of ripeness.
Parker et al. also mentions the ageing potential of this unique white wine. A sophisticated white from Catalonia, with 50% Xarel-lo with the rest from Garnacha, Malvasia and Chardonnay.
