Ampeleia Kepos, Costa Toscana Rosso IGT 2016

From the Maremma region of Toscana being home to some of the mythical wines of Super Tuscans such as Sassicaia and Ornellaia, this wine is the delicious stuff. It is a result of a synergic interaction of Cabernet Franc, and Sangiovese married to a blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Mourvedre, 10% Carignane, 5% Alicante Bouschet, and 5% Marsellan smells of newly oiled leather, clove, and pomegranate, exuding floral(with Cabernet Franc), raspberry, strawberry and mineral flavours, matched to a silky texture and soft tannins. This wine is with great character and personality, elegant and with intense fruit because there is no oak treatment(stainless steel fermentation, vat storage and vat ageing). No temperature control. Hand Harvested. Just let the fruit work with the natural environment. Harmonious and long, presenting a fresh, bracing feel as the flavours linger.

This wine is fermented spontaneously, a la style the famous wines from North Rhone. These seven Mediterranean grape varieties are fermented together and blended to produce this wine. The grapes sourced in the vineyards closest to the sea, in Ampeleia di Sotto, where the Mediterranean scrub dominates the landscape permeating the air with its fragrances. An excellent fruit wine that is well out by one Vivino taster who Writes that this wine would have ' Crown every piece of meat with a little bit of lingonberry-jam, (or any berry jam, not too sweet!), and tops it with a mint leave. Combine it with a swig of this Southern French seeming great red Toscana Wine! Only 2500 cases made.

The latest score is:

93 Points, James Suckling “Vivid and lively aromas of crushed raspberries and lemons follow through to a medium-bodied palate with energetic fruit and balanced acidity. There are a fascinating lemon-rind and cherry aftertaste. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.”
