Champagne Lombardi Axiome Brut NV, Côte de Bar

Champagne Lombardi’s Axiome reveals a nose with notes of peaches and pears with a touch of lemony fruit. These same flavours of fruit are found in the mouth accompanied by lovely, refreshing acidity coupled with toasty notes and refined spices. Axiome is very well-balanced champagne with a modern touch. It gives fine and persistent bubbles, and a palate filled with slight tension. It is best enjoyed chilled but not so cold.

Champagne Lombardi’s house Cuvee is a blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, hence this no Pinot Meunier composition gives even more structure. It is produced only from the first run juice. The wine goes through malolactic fermentation in temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks hence it is even rounder, with the Côte de Bar terroir. Twenty per cent reserve wine added and the wine aged on lees for 24 months will give adequate complexities. Note that after disgorgement and a dosage of 6 g/L added, hence the wine will be freshened with a fruity palate, and the wine is aged for an additional six months to stabilize further.

There are lots of good comments. For example, Parker says, “Tendil & Lombardi is a relatively new, but very interesting producer in the Côte de Bar. I have tasted three excellent cuvées that intertwine charm with tension.”

Wine Specctator gives a 90 points, saying "The chalky texture and juicy acidity of this lively Champagne create a fine interplay with the bright flavours of ripe white cherry, poached quince, biscuit and fruit-forward pineapple."

Rhys Pender MW awards it 90 points, saying "This blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay is everything you’d expect from Champagne and good value as far as Champagne goes. It is crisp and zingy with lots of green apple and mineral notes and just a nice dose of toasty autolysis to add complexity. Long, mineral and very refreshing."
