Mocali Brunello di Montalcino 2012


Bright medium ruby-with tight garnet rim. Beautiful and fresh raspberry and cherry fruit. Warm BdM character of mint, earthy spice, and chocolate. The palate reflects the same with a mix of sweet fruit notes and ripe, silky tannins. Structure is firm with linear acidity and spices.

Scores are consistent, including 93 points from James Suckling, who complimented its 'pure and pretty red with plum and chocolate aromas and flavours as well as Lovely silky tannins that are lightly dusty. Also, a 92 Wine spectator who treasures the density and power evoking eucalyptus, wild rosemary, sage and dried cherry flavours, leading to a tense, long, persistent and lingering aftertaste.

The wine from a very good 2012 vintage is made from100% Sangiovese Grosso grown on stony soils at an altitude of 400m. Its alcoholic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks; malolactic fermentation follows in in large Slavonian oak casks for three years. The MOCALI estate situates in the South-West quadrant of Montalcino at an altitude of 350 metres.The soil is rich in minerals in and with limestone. The style is traditional and and with warm micro-climate characteristics.
