Tasting Notes: Batch 1 March 2015 Pre stock-take Blow-out


Chateau La Gurgue 2007, Margaux CBS. Decanter 16 Points. Drink 2010 to2015. After manual harvest, winemaking is conducted in stainless steel tanks with 15 days maceration. The 12-month aging is conducted in oak barrels (25% new). The wine is elegant and complex, very Margaux(cru level of nose, sturdy, power, inky nose). The bouquet is fruity. In the mouth, it is rather round and exudes harmony with well integrated tannins. Shorter, but very nice drinking.

Chateau Fonplégade Grand Cru Classe St. Emilion 2001. Two independent cellars possible to raise only in new barrels, two vintages simultaneously for a period of 18 to 24 months. The result keeps wines, a freshness, balanced,deep red, nose dominated by fruit with hints of spice and vanilla, round and mineral texture,tannins, fine and silky, and spicy finish. Fruit drying out a little, but a ripe vintage such as 2001 compensates lots of fruit sweetness. Licoriced and soft.

Chateau Canon St. Michel 1998, Canon Fronsac. The Château Canon Saint Michel 1998 is a deep ruby-red colour with a red fruit nose and a delicious intensity in the mouth. It also gives notes of tobacco and vanilla on a strong tannic structure. When young, the vintage reveals aromas of bitter cherries with a pleasant minerality, and then with more than 14 years, notes of truffles and undergrowth appear, characteristic of great wines grown on argilo-calcareous soils.

Cuvee Harmas, Cotes du Rhone 2011. Picking in twenty years above year-old vine, and the palate is powerful fruit flavors, intense aromas of vanilla and black fruit flavours winding of the tongue, long not scattered. 60% Grenache 20% Syrah, 10% Carignan de + 30 year old 10% Mourvèdre, 13.5% ABV. Dark nose and dark fruited palate. Peppery.

Domaine Buillat Cuvee Colombier, Morgon 2010. This is the best Beaujolais among the 7 that we tasted tonight. This Morgon is medium ruby/ garnet, very aromatic in nose. More tannin compared with other crus with higher complexity, plum, berries, cherry, herbs, tea leaf and earthy note. As a lover of Burgundy, this Beaujolais makes me recalled Burgundy a lot.

Domaine Buillat Moulin A Vent 2009, Beaujolais. Grenadine and fresh black raspberry tinged with boxwood, brown spices, carob, and bitter-edged dark chocolate. Dense and quite rich in its alliance of forward fruit, fine tannins and undertones of torrefaction, this lingers with medicinal aura.

Intense red with floral and fruity aromas of iris, roses, berries and peaches vines this elegant wine, end the fleshy and silky body will offer you a few years, a move towards spicy notes. It is ideal with an aperitif, with a roast chicken or coq au vin or quail.

Chateau Kingenfus Gewurztraminer 2011, Alsace. Off-dry style with longan and Lychee nose. Not showy, but solid and charming. Rose petal makes this wine classical correct which should go well with any aromatic Asian dishes. Excellent food wine. Northern Alsace, windy flat area.

Chateau Kingenfus Riesling 2011, Alsace. Bone dry style, with tantalizing citrus and pomelo fruit. High minerality and edging acidity make it excellent food wine. Northern Alsace, windy flat area.

Chateau Kingenfus Pinot Gris 2011.Off dry citrus style with ripe peach and some nutty tone. Touch of oiliness and warmer palate. Simple and bodied by white wine standard. Excellent food wine. Northern Alsace, windy flat area.

Vieux Champ St. Emilion Grand Cru 2007, Bordeaux. The moderate climate of Bordeaux creates medium plus tannins and a stilted structure accent very earthy soil, tobacco, tar along with dried mixed fruit such as blackberry, raspberry, and plum on the nose and palate.

Chateau Lagarde 1999, Pessac leognan, Bordeaux. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot. Dry fruited: blackcurrant, morello cherry, stewed fruits, spices. Melted tannins, high minerality.

Grange des Papes, Costieres de Nimes Languedoc Rousillon 2011, Southern France. Classic GSM. Deep ruby ​​red, marked by red fruits (raspberry, blackberry and blackcurrant), truffle and spices. Dark peppery fruit with linear acidity, long finish, smooth and silky for the standard.
