Chateau Marsac Seguineau 2010, Margaux
Dark ruby; tight, pink rim. The dominant 65% Merlot helps exhibiting red fruit(cherries, raspberries) and coming through as a pleasing sweet spice note. The first impression you will get is the plush and plump texture with blackberry and spice flavours. That higher proportion makes this wine from the tougher Soussans village taste even more balanced. Solidly built as the 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc giving length and structure, a perfumy edge (like rose, potpourri) weaves through the finish. The 12-month ageing in small French oak barrels (24% new) helps creating mixed notes of singed vanilla bean, sleek toast(also bacon) and a flicker of espresso, pencil shavings framing the core of red fruit. So the impression on first nsoe and palate is: medium finish, very round, classic Magaux aromatics.
Decant a full hour is one true alternative, though we would recommend appreciate in a bigger glass over time. Try to taste this wine at 18C up. After about an hour, it will develop an even earthier, rustic quality, with new emerging tones of darker fruit(blueberries), mulberry and cocoa powder really showing through. The texture becomes softer and supple.
We have 5 other interesting points to add to this very nice wine:
100 tasters(out of 170) in Vivino on this wine 2010 vintage rated 4-star; one third of the tasters rated this 5-star. Looks like 'expert' comments coincide with those of the consumers'.
A velvety and structured wine. Consulted by famous Eric Boissenot who always makes velvety wines, Chateau Marsac Seguineau is a Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux from the northern edge of the commune of Margaux near the border with Saint Julien.
From mix of heavy clayey and gravels, this chateau was composed of previous land from Lascombes and Malescot Ste Exupery, so it is fully capable of holding its own amongst the classed growths.

This wine has a classy, clean and ‘sober’ crown label.
Leading comments from JS is, ‘Aromas of freshly sliced strawberries and crushed raspberries follow through to a full body, with chewy tannins and a tangy finish. Needs time to resolve the tannins. Better in 2017. (James Suckling)’
Also, from Decanter. Good clarity of Margaux fruit with quite an elegant finish. Drink 2014-2018.(Decant.com)
