Domaine de la Solitude 2012,Cuvee Tradition

A new yet historic Chateauneuf du Pape(CDP) using the mix of 4 traditional grapes(Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault) giving enough complextities.

Why new? This is a classic rendition of CDP with modernity, using lots of new methods familiar to wine students. Stainless Steel fermentation, slight carbonic maceration, short cycle maceration, separate vinification of grapes for mixing flexibility for the modern consumer, all these combined in this glass of wine we tasted yesterday with peppery cherries, bright dark fruit(Blackberry, plums), smoky meat(beef jerky), liquorice.

Why his historic? Grenache is from 100+ years old vines, hence quite some intensity, with a supple texture. Of course, there are lots of histories behind.

Fruit quality is high(5% to 10% discard of fruit on picking; full destemming; bi g vats; French oak). That 15% alcohol has been tamed with six years behind. And this wine can age gracefully for another 5 years, and beyond, too. Vintage 2012 is one of the best, recent vintage.

Excellent terroir(pebble and big stones); situated nect to the famous La Crau vineyard. International scores are reasonably high. Comments are spectacular for some.

WS92 Wine Spectator Silky in feel and very long, with lovely raspberry and boysenberry coulis flavors that glide through, flecked with anise, rooibos tea and well-roasted sandalwood notes. The long finish lets everything drape gracefully. Very suave. Drink now through 2027. 6,000 cases made. –JM
