White House Cellars 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2009 Merlot, Napa Valley

This White House Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 is a classic, Napa Valley Cabernet displaying a bouquet of black plums, dark cherry, leather, liquorice and dark chocolate. On the palate, fresh and elegant blackcurrant fruit with good acidities rounded off by nice oak balance.

The White House Cellars Merlot 2009 gives dark and red cherries, tones of fennel, with generous fruit and body. Tannins integrated well by now.

Correct Napa Valley wines, both are at alcohol level is listed at 13.9%, which feels not too loud though on nose and palate though. Decant in glass(or full), chill it down will help.

One out of the 6 Vivino tasters who rank both wines 5-Star, with three other tasters 4-Star. Not bad. With food, both the 2009 Merlot and Cabernet brings admirable “presence” to both grilled beef and the more delicate Cantonese food. Both wines show lots of youthfulness with vigor.

If fruit length on palate may have been longer, both these 2009 Cabernet and Merlot certainly will leave an even better impression.

By now these are perfectly aged Cabernet and Merlot which May not stand up to the intense atmosphere of a White House state dinner?

This wine get us to drink like a President… on the cheap.

DD91 for Cabernet; DD90 for Merlot.
