E.Guigal Cotes du Rhone 2013
Shiny deep rubied colour, this branded 2013 has a medium rim. Fresh red berries and strawberries, more than blue and dark fruit. Spices and white peppery; tones of trees and leather on the nose. Quite aromatic. The palate is round with smooth tannins and note of black olives, a long finish with some elegance and finesse. Taste intellectual, though wood influence seems long by spending 18 months in oak. Not a deep and densely structured vintage, but there is a new lean power behind the fruit.
This E.Guigal Cotes du Rhone is used in classes before and is an excellent example of how a bottle of wine can be different every vintage but still retain it’s personality and finesses. This wine has a solid character and delivers good fruit and complexity at a very fair price., this wine is consistently excellent. It is always heavy in the Syrah department at about 50% every vintage, with Grenache and a bit of Mourvedre rounding out the blend.
The vines aged 35 years on average. Soil type is variable with a mixture of sediments, limestone granite, silt and pebbles.

RP91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 2013 Cotes du Rhone, which is scheduled to be bottled in November, is a bigger, richer wine than I remember and has tons of ripe Syrah characteristics. Black olives, smoked earth, pepper and plenty of dark fruit all emerge from this inky-colored, straight-up impressive Cotes du Rhone.
