Clos Rene 1985
Medium garnet rim. Rubied colour. A generous plummy wine with fine tannins. The fruit profile is robust for the age-fresh black currant (cassis), strawberries, raspberries and fig- with clean secondary tones, that of cedar and black pepper. The palate is full, plummy and generous, reflecting the nose with added dimensions of mushroom, oak, and a leathery texture. There is still quite some berry youthfulness to the finish. The bottle is well-balanced and is going strong which leads to stylish with good length.
A lower score like 87 may mean the price has been kept reasonable. All tasters like the freshness of the fruit.
