2016 Chateau La Fleur Haut Carras, Pauillac
Deep ruby red, with a tight purple rim. On the nose, dense blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, with classic Pauillac tones of violets, cedar, spice box, and leather. The DNA is decidedly Pauillac, with high acidity and structured tannins. Simple, albeit with no less quality than some within the 1855 Classification, this is a powerful and full flavoured 'mini-cru' of Pauillac- bursting fruit and with pure vanilla nuances(graphite, tobacco)-all coming from the luxurious 12-month treatment on oak fermented right to form a moderate ABV 13.5%-extremely drinkable now and rewards even more on ageing. Note also this 2016 vintage has been blue-stamped by Robert Parker as the most beautiful since 2010.
The 2016 Chateau La Fleur Haut Carras from the tiny family estate (only 2,000 case production)whose parcles of land are bordered by the great Chateaux(Lynch Bages, Latour, Mouton, Pichon Comtesse, Colombier Monpelou). Really according to the insider, several attempts have been made, as Mouton always been eyeing on artisan Pauillac growers nearby. Hence, this wine could be one of the best buys in Bordeaux today. This 2016 could have priced at $2000+ by bottle, should Mouton succeed in buying them out. Bearing in mind Mouton 2016 is an RP100(by NM), and is now selling from $5000 to $8000 per bottle.
Albert TIFFON comes from a family of winegrowers established in Saint Sauveur du Médoc for over a century and a half. However, unable to take over the family property (his parents still being active), he, therefore, decided in 1982 to create his exploitation wine. This micro-property has only 4 hectares: 2 hectares of vines which belonged to retired winegrowers, 2 hectares are vines ceded by his great uncle. The Fleur Haut Carras, therefore, remains a family story perpetuated by Albert TIFFON since 1982.
