Petrolo Torrione Toscana IGT 2011
Retasting Fattoria Petrolo Torrione Toscana IGT 2011 this morning recalls lots of colourful memories of Tuscany: trees, olives, the undulating greens, the fragrances. On nose, wild flowers, violets, wild cherries; on palate, full, round with nice extracts and round tannins. With a touch of vanillin, the fruit shines through. This is a civilized and good wine. JS94, AG92.
Technicals and tasting to us reconcile as follows. Intense palate from old vines of above 40 years old assorted from the best vineyards in Central Tuscany. Also quality is controlled through maximum yield as low as 500-gram per vine. Old flame 'Italiano' from sangiovese 80% with international modernity from the dash of the 20% Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Full favour, velvet tannins and long after taste come from the 14-day of careful maceration, mild pump-over to extract gently and fully. Fruit shines through for the well-balance part oak-fermentation in French Barriques and part fermentation in 40HL old barrels and cement tanks. Palate is easy and fluent because of the very mild rackings. Adequate complexities from mixed oak ageing.
