Kilikanoon Parable Shiraz 2004
An Eden Shiraz with vineyards netted 350 metres above sea-level, Kilikanoon Parable Shiraz always shows lifted aromas of black olive and spicy plums lead into a stylish and seamless palate. Years back the Kilikanoon Parable Shiraz 2004 jumped into the limelight a handful of years back when it took the Clare Valley wine show by storm, taking out a host of trophies. By now with 10 years of bottle age, the Kilikanoon Parable Shiraz 2004 gives a medium garnet rim with bright ruby core showing that it is health. It is not as bodied as before. Tannins soften out, perceived alcohol dies down, and is with lots of floral nuances and lots of fruit and structure. It is very tasty. The 2004 is the first vintage in self-owned vats and machines.

While it’s splitting hairs, I thought the 2004 Shiraz Parable was slightly better than the Testament. Made from two vineyards, 35- and 45-years-old, it was given an upbringing similar to that of the Testament cuvee, but seems to possess slightly more aromatic nuances, and just as much body, concentration, and intensity. It also may reveal more floral, blue, and black fruits in the mouth. (RP) (10/2006)
