Chateau Monbousquet Blanc 2012
Bright and clear straw gold. An intriguing blend of two-thirds Sauvignon Blanc(55%)and one-third Sauvignon Gris(35%), with a dash of Semillon(5%) and Muscadelle(5%). The 2012 Monbousquet blanc offers caramelized orange and tangerine notes and some grapefruit and honeysuckle in a medium-bodied, fresh, lively, floral style. The first nose of new notes of lemon peel, green apple, fruit, lime, white flowers, freshly cut grass, nectarine, honey, peach and minerals. The finish gives juicy acidity, balanced, creamy, rich flavour with hints of fruit, melon, mango, green apple, pineapple, herbs, citrus and honey. Almost oily. Some complexities after eight years of bottle ageing. ABV 13.5%.Dry white wine Chateau Monbousquet is produced from grapes grown in vineyards in the southern part of the estate. Soil - mostly gravel, hence the ripe and powerful style/ The wine is aged on the lees in oak barrels (50% of them new) for six months, hence the creaminess. The final mix is done before bottling without any filtering, hence the intensity and complexity.
Well commented. The best score is WS93, with consistent ratings in the range of 92, for example:
James Suckling | 92 JS Tropical fruits, honey, mint, lime and almonds are some of the many scents that emerge from the 2012 Monbousquet Blanc. Vinification in oak (50% new) and stirring of the lees give the wine much of its overt personality and lush, oily texture. Readers should expect a flamboyant white with expressive aromatics and plenty of depth. The blend is 67% Sauvignon Blanc and 33% Sauvignon Gris. Edited.
Vinous Media | 92 VM Composed of two-thirds Sauvignon Blanc and one-third Sauvignon Gris and already in bottle, the 2012 Monbousquet was aged in 50% new oak and 50% used barrels. Malolactic is now blocked, resulting in a crisper wine exhibiting copious notes of spring flowers, wet gravel, orange marmalade and caramelized citrus. This impressive, exotic, fragrant white wine should drink well for 3-4 years. Edited.
