Château La Tour Carnet, a historic Left Bank estate, stands out for both its enviable location and distinctive wines. Situated in Saint-Laurent-Médoc, just two kilometres from Saint-Julien and not far from Margaux, the estate benefits from gravel-rich soils and a temperate microclimate akin to those of its prestigious neighbours. This proximity imparts an elegance and aromatic finesse to its wines that often surpass typical Haut-Médoc expectations.
Both the 2011 (13.5% ABV) and 2016 (14% ABV) vintages are blended from roughly 60% Merlot and 35–37% Cabernet Sauvignon, with small amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Each vintage is matured for 16–18 months in French oak (30–40% new), adding structure and subtle spice.
The 2011 is medium-bodied and approachable, with ripe black fruit, plum, cedar, and tobacco notes. Its rounded tannins and moderate acidity make it ideal for near-term enjoyment. For best results, serve slightly chilled and let it warm to room temperature to reveal its full palate. It received solid critical acclaim, including 89 points from Wine Spectator and 88 from Wine Advocate.
The 2016 is more powerful and age-worthy. Its vibrant aromas of blackberry, cassis, violet, and graphite lead to a full-bodied palate with plush tannins and concentrated black fruit. With 14% ABV, it benefits from some breathing time to soften its initial alcohol pungency and allow its aromatic complexity to emerge. The vintage was highly praised, scoring 93 points from both Wine Spectator and James Suckling, and 92 from Wine Advocate.
Your prices—HK$265 for the 2011 and HK$289 for the 2016—are below Wine-Searcher’s market averages (HK$273–HK$429 for 2011 and HK$390–HK$663 for 2016).
